Les Miserables in London
Embark on a poignant journey through revolutionary France with Les Misérables. Holding the crown as the longest-running musical in the West End, the Tony and Olivier Award-winning Les Misérables has attracted over 130 million people worldwide to see it. This superb adaptation of Victor Hugo's book is a timeless tale of love, sacrifice, and redemption that continues to fill its home at the Sondheim Theatre.
Why you should see Les Misérables
- Les Misérables has been translated into 21 languages, including two Norweigan versions, six Spanish versions and two German versions.
- An eight-time Academy Award nominated film adaptation of the musical was released in 2012.
- Many big West End stars have performed in Les Misérables during its history including Kerry Ellis, Ramin Karimloo, Alfie Boe and Michael Ball.
What is Les Misérables about?
Les Miserables weaves a dramatic, edge-of-your-seat tale of revolution and romance and has been entertaining audiences since its opening in Paris more than three decades ago. It tells the moving story of the rebellious but reformed character, Jean Valjean, a man who is tormented by a relentless police officer called Javert in 19th century Paris as the French Revolution rages all around. It’s heart-breaking stuff, with romantic interest provided by the student Marius who falls deeply in love with Cosette. As Javert becomes ever more of a threat to the rebels, confrontations are inevitable. But love eventually triumphs despite everything...
‘The musical to end all musicals’
A surprising number of songs from Les Miserables have become hits in their own right, independent of the musical, and you’ll adore the show’s endless stream of beautiful ballads and moving anthems. Some of Les Misérables' biggest hits include "I Dreamed a Dream", "On My Own" and "Do You Hear The People Sing?" and "Bring Him Home".
With its combination of powerful music, compelling characters, and timeless themes of justice and redemption, experience a slice of West End history with a visit to Les Misérables.

Second vist - 30 years apart! The part of the Grand Circle where we were sitting had a good view and we enjoyed the show immensely. I had brought my wife to see the show nearly 30 years ago for her 40th birthday. She was not feeling well on the day and did not get the best out of the show then. This time she was feeling well and enjoyed every minute of it.

Great show if you have not seen it beforeThe musical is moving, with great songs. The only thing that let it down was that, being in a smaller theatre, the set was not amazing, and the performances were mainly mediocre, with touches of greatness. I had seen it before in a bigger venue when it first came out, and it didn't compare. However, if you have not seen the show before, it is well worth a visit.

Incredible experience, everyone should see it!I have enjoyed Les Misérables since I was a small child and my father introduced me to it by sitting me down in front of a DVD recording of the 1996 performance. I’ve listened to the soundtrack countless times, and watched the movie in 2012 (with my father, of course). When I got the opportunity to travel to the northern hemisphere - and London specifically - I knew I had to go see it. I booked tickets for myself and my partner, who had never seen it or any other musical, and by the end of it we were both crying. It was probably the best show I’ve ever seen - the acting and singing were absolutely phenomenal, the lighting was outstanding, and the transitions and special effects were immersive and amazingly done. If I had more time here (and more money) I would be going back to see it every day!

Great story, presentation, music and performancesI am lucky enough to have see Les Mis over 20 times in different venues around the world. This was an excellent production, musically secure, and very well presented (staging, lighting etc), and with some excellent performances (hard to find a weak link). Eponine (Jess Folley) was the best Eponine I have seen: her stage and musical performance was spot-on. The strong story line is a really important element: it pulls you in, enhanced by the performances.
